New Faculty Actively Pursue The Office of Research would like to recognize the hard work of the following new research faculty, pictured below: Drs. Boyd, Heus, Kim, Sandlers, Voight, Wirth, and Yaroslavsky. These researchers have submitted applications for external research funding totaling over $1.3 million in their first semester at CSU.

2015-16 DRA, FRD and FSI Funding Announcements The Office of Research is pleased to announce a Call for Proposals for the following 2015-2016 internal funding programs: Dissertation Research Award (DRA)
All three funding programs have a deadline of March 6, 2015. In order to assist in the preparation of successful applications, the evaluation forms that will be used to evaluate the proposals are included at the end of the guidelines file associated with each award. The Office of Research is pleased to announce that researchers whose work includes human participants will have the option of submitting new protocols to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) using Cayuse IRB beginning in January. Cayuse IRB is a completely online system, including online protocol creation, submission, review, and management. Cayuse IRB is easy to use and should improve all aspects of the submission and review process for researchers and IRB members. An updated announcement will be made in January.
Meet CSU's New Research Faculty
Dr. Emily Rauschert, assistant professor in the Department of Biological, Geological, and Environmental Sciences, joined CSU this fall. Dr. Rauschert's research program focuses on the spread and population growth of invasive plants. As globalization increases, the number of non-native species arriving has increased, and in many cases, invasion leads to the creation of similar non-native communities worldwide and an associated loss of unique local communities. Two critical aspects of managing biological invasions are often not well understood: quantifying how the invader got there in the first place, and determining which control efforts are best for reducing spread or local population density and increasing native community diversity and resilience. Dr. Rauschert's work involves the integration of experimental and observational field work with computational modeling to answer basic and applied questions about invasive plants. She has worked with invasive plants from Europe and Asia as well as worked in Europe on invasive plants from North America. Dr. Rauschert also has strong interests in effective teaching, including building scientific thinking, communication and quantitative skills, and working closely with students to develop these skills on applied research questions.

Dr. Bill Bowen's research is the focus of the latest installment of the Featured Researcher Video series. Dr. Bowen is a Professor of Public Administration and Urban Studies at Cleveland State University. His research includes regional economic development, energy policy, environmental issues, empirical, research methods, analysis, urban, modeling, regional systems. We encourage you to learn about Dr. Bowen's work, and to take a look at our previous Featured Researcher Videos.
Dr. Raj Javalgi, associate dean in CSU's Monte Ahuja College of Business and professor of Marketing and International Business, is recognized as a leading scholar in the field of international business and international entrepreneurship. In the area of international business, recently published journals have identified Dr. Javalgi as one of the top ten scholars in the in the areas of internationalization of knowledge-based services and internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises. While performing his administrative duties, Dr. Javalgi has maintained sustained excellence in research and teaching. He has published over 125 articles in leading scholarly journals, and several of his articles have received best paper awards and citation excellence awards. Furthermore, Dr. Javalgi was twice named as the Monte Ahuja Distinguished Professor of Research and, along with colleagues in the College of Business, he has worked on several grants that have supported business outreach initiatives and new program developments. Dr. Javalgi is actively engaged in the Northeast Ohio business and entrepreneurial community. _____________________________________________________________________________ Please share with us important news or updates on your research, scholarly, or creative activities. News from the Technology Transfer Office The Cleveland State University Research Corporation Board of Directors met on November 14, 2014 to discuss recent developments and new initiatives to further support and bolster technology transfer and commercialization activities at CSU. For more information please visit the CSU Research Corporation and Technology Transfer Office websites. On November 19, 2014, the University filed a non-provisional patent application regarding the Microperfusion Tissue Interrogator, a device developed through a collaboration between Dr. Andrew Resnick in the Department of Physics and researchers at Case Western Reserve University.
Learn How to Use SPIN to Find The Office of Research is pleased to invite all CSU faculty, staff, and student researchers interested in learning how to use SPIN to attend a webinar on Thursday, January 22nd from 11:30am - 12:30pm.
