Iryna Lendel, assistant director of the Center for Economic Development in the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs, was awarded $201,000 from the Economic Growth Foundation in order to support her research on the Roadmap for Developing Shale Gas Industry in Ohio.
This research is looking to answer questions about how the midstream companies will catch up to the drilling pace of Utica shale development. Some of the questions addressed in this work include: What is the prospective throughput from Utica and Marcellus shale? Can petroleum and chemical industries be attracted to Ohio? What demands will be made on the State and regional labor markets from the development of Utica by the shale gas industry and potential downstream industries?

CSU Scholar News
Dr. Milena Sterio, associate professor, is the Charles R. Emrick Jr.- Calfee Halter & Griswold Professor of Law at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. Professor Sterio's research focuses on International Law, and over the past few years, Professor Sterio has written extensively in the area of maritime piracy.
Professor Sterio has published several law review articles on this topic, including The Somali Piracy Problem: A Global Puzzle Necessitating A Global Solution, published in the American University Law Review, and Piracy off the Coast of Somalia: The Argument for Pirate Prosecutions in the National Courts of Kenya, The Seychelles, and Mauritius, published in the Amsterdam Law Forum. In these articles, Professor Sterio has examined various legal issues related to the capture and prosecution of suspected Somali pirates, including the challenge of prosecuting such suspected pirates in domestic courts.
The research necessary for the completion of the second-mentioned article was funded both by a Faculty Scholarship Initiative, and by the College of Law; the combination of these funds allowed Professor Sterio to travel to the Seychelles and to Mauritues, where she met with local judges, prosecutors, and attorneys, and where she conducted research on the best prosecutorial models for bringing suspected pirates to trial in national courts.
