Dr. Bibo Li, a professor in the Department of Biological, Geological, and Environmental Sciences (BGES) and a member of the Center for Gene Regulation in Health and Disease (GRHD), has been awarded a new R01 research grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The 5-year, $2.16 million project is titled "Essential functions of Trypanosoma brucei RAP1." This is her second active R01 grant and reflects her prolific research activity; she was awarded another 4-year R01 grant and a 2-year R21 grant in 2022 and an R03 grant in 2021. Read More »

Dr. Apostolos Kalatzis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science. His research focuses on human-artificial intelligence collaboration and the mechanisms to monitor cognitive workload in human-robot collaboration. Entrepreneurial Manufacturer Digitization Support (EMDiS) Center Awarded Three-Year, $3.6M Renewal

Cleveland State University's Entrepreneurial Manufacturer Digitization Support (EMDiS) center has received $1.8 million in federal funding from the US Economic Development Administration's Build to Scale (B2S) program, augmented by partner matching funds totaling another $1.8 million, to continue its mission of Technology Based Economic Development (TBED) by assisting Ohio's small and medium sized manufacturing companies with implementing digital technologies to improve their efficiency, innovation, and profitability. Dr. Jerzy Sawicki, the Bently and Muszynska Endowed Chair and Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (MCE), will continue to serve as the PI for the 3-year grant. Read More »

U.S. Patent Application Filing

U.S. Patent Application Ser. No. 18/383160, titled: Generic PID Design and Tuning was filed naming Dr. Zhiqiang Gao, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

The invention provides an improved method for tuning and scaling a proportional-integral derivative controller (PID). PID systems automatically apply accurate and responsive correction to a control function. PID controllers are found in a wide range of applications for industrial process control. Approximately 95% of the closed-loop operations of the industrial automation sector use PID controllers.

CSURC Annual Meeting

The CSU Research Corporation (CSURC) Board of Directors held their Board Meeting on December 5, 2023. New Board Director Stephanie Brooks, Dean of the College of Health, was elected. Directors Mark Czaja, V.P. of Technology & Innovation, Parker Hannifin and Todd Kooken, V.P. Global Equipment R&D, Lincoln Electric were re-elected.

The Board was updated by Meredith Bond, President and CEO, Stephanie Brooks, Jack Kraszewski, COO and Executive Director and Ben Ward, Director, Research Development & Ethics. The realigned College of Health was highlighted by Dr. Brooks. Several faculty research efforts and funding accomplishments were highlighted. All industry sponsored research collaborations administered by CSURC were also summarized.
