Hanz Richter, Ph.D., a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (MCE), has received funding from the Dynamics and Control Division of the National Science Foundation (NSF) to explore fundamental engineering principles and develop methodologies for the design, control, and optimization of power networks across physical domains.

The research is based on a new, generalized understanding of principles from thermodynamics; in particular, its second law, entropy and exergy. The research has applications in electrified aircraft propulsion, microgrids and electromechanical energy conversion. Read More »

Yong Tao to Lead Department of Education Grant for Modeling and Simulation

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded Dr. Yong Tao, the Betty L. Gordon Endowed Professor and Chair, a $1,009,852 grant for his proposal “Developing Modeling and Simulation-Based Multidisciplinary Learning environment for Urban Universities.” The Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Teacher Education will develop a new graduate concentration of Modeling and Simulation in Sustainable Energy Systems (MS-SES). U.S. Patent Issuance

On February 7, 2023, the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued U.S. Patent 11,571,146, titled Rotation Monitoring System and Method, that names Dr. Antonie van den Bogert, a professor and the Parker Hannifin Endowed Chair in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and CSU graduate Christopher Schroeck as inventors.
