Dr. Josiah Owusu-Danquah, an assistant professor in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), along with co-investigator Dr. Geyou (Augyu) Ao, an associate professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (CBE), will lead a new program funded by NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (SMD) Bridge Program Seed Funding. The two-year, $299,995 program will combine research and student mentoring along with engagement of NASA researchers to lay the groundwork for future proposals to NASA research programs. The team’s research will focus on assessing and developing surface coating materials that can enhance the durability and performance of shape-memory alloys (SMAs) exposed to extremely harsh environments. SMAs have the unique ability to recover significant deformations after changes in stress and/or return to their original shapes after heating, making them useful in a range of fields. Read More » |
