Faculty Scholarship Initiative (FSI)

The deadline for applications is Monday, February 2, 2026. Proposals for this funding cycle must be submitted via the submission form linked in the program’s guidelines. Emailed proposals will not be accepted.

REMINDER: NIH Requirements for Biosketches and NIH/NSF Required Research Security Training

The NIH will require the use of the Common Forms for Biographical Sketch, Current and Pending (Other) Support and NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement prepared using SciENcv for application due dates and all JIT, RPPR, and Prior Approval submissions on or after January 25, 2026. NIH and NSF have issued new requirements regarding research security training and disclosure of all current and pending research activities and affiliations. Under these new directives, all senior personnel (not just PI/Co-PIs) listed on a federal award are required to comply with the training and disclosure requirements. CSU has added the module Research Security Training (Combined) to our CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative) training subscription to meet these requirements.

GRHD Students Selected for PhD/Postdoc Exchange Program

Congratulations to Anita Dhara, PhD candidate, and Sumayea Meem, PhD student, who were selected to participate in the PhD/Postdoc Exchange Program with the CIHD (Center for Iron and Heme Disorders) at the University of Utah. The program is funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), and the students will present their current research and train in core facilities located at CIHD.

Anita and Sumayea are working in the lab of Dr. Merlin Nithya Gnanapragasam, an assistant professor in the Department of Biological, Geological, and Environmental Sciences (BGES) and a member of the Center for Gene Regulation in Health and Disease (GRHD).

NSF I-Corps Application Submission

When: Application Deadline February 1, 2026, Start Date February 27, 2026 Online Attendance

I-Corps supports teams of students or a faculty member and at least one student through a 7-week critical market and commercialization evaluation. Benefits of I-Corps include:

  • Increasing the impact of your research by understanding industry needs, so you can compellingly communicate the value of your research
  • Learning NSF tech commercialization approaches that will improve your ability to pursue grants like NSF's $50,000 I-Corps Teams, $300,000+ Partnerships for Innovation (PFI) or $275,000 STTR grants; I-Corps graduates have a greater than 37% success rate on each of the above grants
  • Receiving $1,000 in NSF-lineage funding just for participating

JumpStart’s Blueprint Program is a free, 5-module, self-paced online educational program for busy entrepreneurs who want to grow their businesses on their own time.

Some of the program offerings for early-stage small business owners include:

  • A foundation for starting and growing a small business, including discussion of value proposition, marketing and sales, revenue streams, and goal-setting
  • Practical applied exercises to help business owners create their Business Blueprint
  • Impactful tools and resources that help business owners set up their businesses for the long term
  • Five personalized one-on-one coaching appointments throughout the program to support learning and growth
