US Patent Allowance

On September 23, 2026, the U.S. Patent Application No. 18/389/323 naming Shaowei Yang, an assistant professor in the Deparment of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (ChBME), and graduate student Ninad Anjikar, titled Process for Removing Carbon Dioxide From Acetylene Using Cha-Type Zeolite Membrane was allowed by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Acetylene (C2H2) is an important industrial fuel and feedstock chemical.

The inventive CHA zeolite membrane demonstrated excellent separation performance for separating CO2/C2H2. CO2/C2H2 separation is critical for producing C2H2 by partial oxidation of natural gas. The disclosed membrane separation technology could be an energy-efficient alternative and is great to reduce the carbon footprint for C2H2 production.
